How Compass Audits fits together.
Compass is two apps sharing one account system: a dashboard for managers and a field app for auditors. This page explains who creates whom, who signs in where, and how to get unstuck.
THE SETUP, IN ORDER
Accounts start with a manager.
Nobody joins Compass on their own. An organization is created by a manager, and every auditor account is created by that manager — which is what keeps one company's properties, audits, and findings sealed off from everyone else's.
- WEB DASHBOARD
A manager creates the organization
The first manager signs up on the dashboard and names the organization. That creates your org — every property, audit, and account from then on lives inside it.
- WEB DASHBOARD
The manager creates auditor accounts
On the Team screen, the manager adds each auditor by name and email. Compass generates a one-time temporary password to hand over. Auditors never sign themselves up.
- MOBILE APP
The auditor signs in on the phone
The auditor installs the app and signs in with that email and temporary password, then changes it under Settings → Change password. There is no sign-up screen in the app by design.
- WEB + MOBILE
Work flows between the two
Managers assign audits with due dates; auditors run them in the field; submitted audits come back with AI findings the manager triages on the dashboard.
THE TWO APPS
One account, two very different tools.
Your Compass login is the same in both places — what you see is decided by your role, not by which app you opened.

Crossing over. An auditor can also sign in on the web, and it's not a consolation prize — the dashboard carries the same audit flow, which is the comfortable way to do the desk half of an audit (see below). What an auditor doesn't get there is anything org-wide: no team, properties, reports, or flags, blocked at the server rather than merely hidden. A manager signing in on the phone is turned away entirely — managing a portfolio happens on the dashboard.
WHAT'S IN AN AUDIT
Half the audit isn't a walkthrough.
An audit is one question set covering the whole property — the physical plant and how the site is being run. That second half is desk work: occupancy and delinquency numbers off the reports, the property's website and Google reviews, move-in files, renewals, staff performance. Plan for both.

Same audit, either device. Nothing is locked to one app. Walk the property on your phone, then open the same audit on the dashboard to finish the desk sections with the reports in another tab — your answers are the same audit either way, saved as you go. Sign in on the web with the account your manager gave you, exactly as you do on the phone.

AFTER YOU SUBMIT
A finding isn't the end of it.
Submitting an audit hands it to the AI auditor, which reads every answer, looks at the photos, and reads back the voice notes before raising findings ranked low, medium, or high. That usually takes a few minutes. What happens next is the part that matters: each finding is something a manager works, not a line in a report.
The four states
- Open
Every finding starts here. Open flags are what the dashboard counts as needing attention.
- Acknowledged
You've seen it and it's in hand. Still counted as needing attention — it just isn't news any more.
- Resolved
Fixed. Drops out of the open counts, and the flag keeps its history.
- Dismissed
Not a real problem — a misread photo, or something already known and accepted.
Only managers change a flag's state, and every change lands in the flag's activity log with who did it and when — including the AI's own entries, which show as AI auditor. Managers can also leave comments there, so the reasoning survives the staff who wrote it.
Fix-verification visits
Rather than wait for the next full audit, a manager can schedule a visit aimed at specific flags: pick an auditor and a due date from the flag itself. Each flag records that it's been scheduled, and the auditor picks the visit up as an assignment on that property like any other.
When that visit is reviewed, each flag it was checking gets a verdict:
- Fixed
The AI found evidence in the new visit that the problem is gone. The original flag closes.
- Still present
The new audit raised the same problem again. The fresh flag is linked back to the original, so you can see how long it's been running.
- Not verified
The visit came back without evidence either way — the flag stays as it was.
Because a repeat finding is linked back to the one it recurs from, a problem that keeps coming back reads as one long-running issue instead of five unrelated flags across five audits.
ACCOUNTS & SIGN-IN
Getting in.
How do I get an account?
If you're a manager, you sign up on the dashboard and name your organization. If you're an auditor, your manager creates your account and gives you an email and a temporary password — there's no sign-up in the mobile app.
My temporary password isn't working.
Check it character by character — it's case-sensitive, and it's easy to pick up a stray space when copying it out of a message. If it still fails, the password may have already been reset: ask your manager to hit Reset password next to your name on the Team screen and send you the fresh one. Resetting also signs you out everywhere, so use the newest password you were given.
I forgot my password.
There's no self-serve email reset. Ask your manager for a reset from the Team screen; they'll get a new temporary password to pass on. Managers who are locked out should email support@compassaudits.ai.
How do I change my password?
In the mobile app: Settings → Change password. On the dashboard: Account settings. Do this after your first sign-in so the temporary password stops working.
Can I use my manager login on the phone?
No — the app turns manager accounts away with a note pointing you to the dashboard. The field app only contains the auditor's audit flow, and every manager surface (team, properties, reports, flags) lives on the web. If you'll be walking properties yourself, ask for an auditor account as well and sign in with that one on the phone.
Can an auditor use the dashboard?
Yes, with a much smaller view: the audit they're running and their own account settings. Everything org-wide is manager-only and refused by the server, not just hidden.
FOR MANAGERS
Running the organization.
Setting up your organization
Sign up on the dashboard, name the organization, and you land in an empty portfolio. Add your properties first, then your auditors — an audit needs both a property and someone to walk it.
Adding an auditor
Team → Add auditor: enter their name and email. Compass creates the account and shows a one-time temporary password — copy it before leaving the screen, it isn't shown again. Send both to your auditor and have them change it after signing in. If the password is lost, use Reset password on their row.
Assigning audits
Open a property and create an assignment with a due date. It shows up under Assigned to you on the auditor's phone, and the due date carries onto the audit when they start it.
What happens after an audit is submitted
The AI auditor reads every answer, photo, and transcribed voice note and raises severity-ranked findings. The audit moves to reviewed and its flags appear on the Flags screen — usually within a few minutes.
Who can see what
You see everything in your organization and nothing outside it. Auditors see only their own work. Accounts can't be moved between organizations — contact support if someone was set up in the wrong place.
FOR AUDITORS
Running an audit.
Starting and finishing an audit
- From the main menu, open an audit assigned to you, or tap New audit to start one on a property.
- Work through the sections. Each question takes a rating, a choice, or a short note — answer what applies and move on; you can come back to any section.
- Answers save automatically, so it's safe to close the app and pick up later from the Continue audit card.
- When you're done, review your answers and submit the audit for AI review.
Photos & voice notes
On questions that ask for documentation, tap the camera to take a photo or attach one from your library, and the microphone to record a quick voice note. The first time, your device asks permission for the camera, photo library, and microphone — used only to capture audit content, and manageable in your device settings.
Photos upload in the background; a brief spinner means an attachment is still going up. Submitted photos are analyzed by our AI to help flag issues (see Privacy).
Assignments & notifications
Properties your manager assigns to you appear under Assigned to you on the main menu with their due dates. The bell in the top corner is your activity feed — new assignments and audits the AI has finished reviewing. A dot means something's unread; opening the feed clears it.
What “Sync now” does
Your work saves to the server continuously while you have a connection, so your data stays current on its own. Settings → Sync now confirms the app is connected and refreshes the “last synced” time. With no signal, finish the audit — it syncs once you're back online.
